13 Safety This year Mrs. Fear created a safety team that meets quarterly to discuss safety enhancements for Charlotte Preparatory School. This committee is made up of police officers, firemen, staff and par- ents. The purpose of this committee is to be proactive vs. reactive given today’s national school safe- ty concerns. Some of the safety improvements that have made this year include: • Glass doors with a buzzer system were installed in the Lower Elementary Building foyer in order to prevent unauthorized access to the classroom portion of the building. • Front door camera and audio system was installed which replaced the prior door bell. • Keypads, cameras, and an alert system were added to the doors between the Lower Elementary and Delta Buildings. • A keypad door lock was installed on the door between the classroom and the front foyer and on the office door leading to the hallway. • All perimeter gates have new locks. • Classroom panic buttons are tested before school starts for effectiveness. • Emergency identification letters have been placed above each exit. • Staff safety training is scheduled at the beginning of the year. This includes medical and health as well as crisis training. • Parent Alert, an emergency notification texting system has been implemented. • Three additional cameras with a DVR have been added to our facility. • Changes have been made to the Physical Education program to ensure that students remain inside the secure portion of the campus. • Two Charlotte County Sheriff Department Officers have keys to our building in case an officer needs to get in the building for an emergency. These officers also monitor our school daily. • Drop Off and Dismissal Pick-up procedures were changed to provide a safer environment for our school community and neighbors on Orlando Boulevard. • Additional no trespassing signage was added to the campus. • Our safety plan and facility map have been added to the Charlotte County Sheriff Department’s In- ternal Computer System. • Charlotte County Sheriff Department Officers walked through our building in the spring of 2018 to become familiar with our building layout. • Charlotte County Sheriff Department has given access to Charlotte Preparatory School’s Cameras for use in case of emergency. • Glass Guard has been put on all classroom doors. • Z-Lock system will be added to all classrooms.
